2018 during my year in Australia, i took the chance and flew to Bali.
My personal advice: if you’re already in Western Australia . FLY TO BALI! The Flight is short and cheap!!! I paid 1000AUD for the whole trip!! Thats like 640EUR or 686USD!! One week in Bali, 3 different stays and places, flight, shopping, food and sight seeing INCLUDED!
Yes, thats about 5 years ago, but it’s still the cheapest deal, you’ll ever get!
My personal inside tip: HOMESTAYS instead of hotels or hostels, and Seminyak instead of Kuta!
In Ubud and Seminyak we stayed in a so called Homestay that is basically private property and taken care by the owners. You’ll get breakfast and they clean your room, but its way smaller and more intimate compared to a hotel. And these accommodations are right where the locals live. In Ulluwatu we stayed in Surfers Paradise which was also super cheap and worth the money – additional breakfast was possible but not to recomand. I prefered the breakfast spot in town. Cute, exotic and super friendly people. We only had cold water to shower, but to be honest – in the tropics you don’t need warm water 😀
Why we chose Seminyak instead of Kuta is simple: Kuta is the German Ballermann (for people who don’t know the Ballermann: it’s a beach district on a spanish Island called Mallorca and is very well known for the 24/7 party scene. Drunk people, loud music, lots of noise and (human)traffic.
I know some of y’all are crazy enough to enjoy that kind of atmosphere, but not me *lol* Semyinak is way more relaxed then Kuta but still like the “main town” of Bali, suuuper nice shopping streets with lots of little stores, awesome spa places and not too far from Kuta, if you decide to party hard one night. We actually walked from Seminyak to Kuta one evening to check it out and it was really not that long of a walk ~30min if i remember right.
We had our personal Driver who picked us up from and to the airport and who also assisted us during our stay. He was recommended by friends of ours in Australia and it was super easy to contact him through his Facebook page. Let me know if you need his contact 🙂
Oh and one last thing, if you have a license: rent a scooter!! It was so easy to travel around the island during our stay and it was super cheap, we barely needed gas and the rent was not to mention at all!! But be carefull, the locals will try to rip you off! So make sure you don’t let them fool you 😉
